Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 3, “All Kinds of Crazy” Spoilers Ahead
Chicago Fire’s “All Kinds of Crazy” feels oddly imbalanced at times, but at the very least, it resolves the critical problem from “Ride the Blade.” It’s a little long where it doesn’t need to be, and it should’ve focused on Ritter’s fall for more than it does.
It’s unclear how long we will have to go back and forth between whether we could trust Chief Pascal or not, and while this episode somewhat brings him back from last week, his behavior remains unquestionably bizarre. The anger issues that manifest in these quiet insults are hard to sit with, but he does one good deed, and it feels like the show expects us to simply be fine with it when that’s not how it works in the real world.
Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 3 Solves the Stellaride and Damon Issue

If nothing else, at least the episode allows Chief Pascal to understand the kind of leader Stella is. The opening shows us her evident frustrations with the situation, but it goes the extra mile to state that none of this is on Kelly because he was truthful with her. If there’s one thing in the series that will never get tiring, it’s watching Kelly and Stella shine as an example of a healthy married couple. It’s watching them share everything with each other, even when they know the outcome won’t be pleasant. It’s watching them learn and grow from their mistakes, which Kelly continues to do.
When Chief Pascal first talks back to Stella, it shows his face again, but a man standing up for her apparently does the trick when that man isn’t her husband. So, Mouch comes into the equation because he’s worked with Stella long enough to know that she’s the kind of lieutenant Firehouse 51 is lucky to have. And I suppose it’s essential to give credit where it’s due because Pascal does take the time to read through the records while he’s at home and simply wants to be with his wife. It continues to make him a confusing character, but at least he’s not all bad. Or, I hope.
Further, now that Damon is back to being a floater, his spot needs to be filled by someone who’ll not only be a permanent member but someone we, as the audience, know and trust. The choice should be obvious, but, in case it isn’t, it should go to Kylie Estevez. The show is full of men, and while the women we have are incredible, the series deserves to have one more who’ll make Firehouse 51 feel complete. Kylie is also someone Chief Boden trusts and respects. She’s a character we’ve grown to care for and someone whose journey we’re entirely familiar with. There shouldn’t be any other option.
That said, even while everything is good with Stella and Kelly, Damon doesn’t seem like the kind of person who’ll let this slip lightly. The fact that he was willing to subtly throw Stella under the bus with carefully calculated words implies that he might be more like Benny than we know, and “All Kinds of Crazy” signals the dynamic change coming between the brothers.
Thank God Ritter Is Okay

It doesn’t feel like Chicago Fire would take a main character away from us after everything that happened with Boden leaving, but for a minute there, surely every heart stopped at the thought of losing Ritter. Thankfully, he isn’t even severely injured, but it’s also crucial that the show is giving him the credit he deserves because the character has been in the background for far too long.
It’s also important to see that his relationship is not only going well but that the firehouse isn’t at all phased by his initial fears either. The new trio we have between him, Violet, and Novak is also surprisingly delightful because it adds all the necessary heart that reminds us of how new things can be lovely amid all the crushing cases.
Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 3, “All Kinds of Crazy,” is an okay episode that brings arson back into the equation while also giving the women a chance to remind viewers how skilled they are. But it’s previews for next week’s episode that now have us all in shambles, right?
Further Thoughts
- Okay, I need this Violet/Carver drama to resolve itself stat because what do you mean his girlfriend whose name I can’t bother to remember deleted Violet’s text!?!?!? I’m gonna scream. I also hate petty drama like this; good lord, why can’t we have good angsty pining instead?
- Also, more of Ritter and his boyfriend because they’re cuties.
- I genuinely do not want to see more scenes with Chief Pascal and his wife. Make it stop.
- Violet and Novak with the little boy was so damn stressful!!
- The fact that Kelly always burrows his face into Stella’s neck when they hug is everything to me.
