Ghots Season 4, Episode 10, “The Not-So-Silent Partner” Spoilers Ahead
This winter hiatus has felt like it’s gone on for ages, but Ghosts returns with another undeniable winner. “The Not-So-Silent Partner” reveals a big secret and finally sets the restaurant opening into motion while maintaining its usual brand of unbeatable heart and humor.
When Mark rightfully gets frustrated by the silent partner—aka Isaac—continuing to reject tile patterns and every other suggestion, he proposes to meet him officially; otherwise, he’s stepping out of the project. In order to make that happen without revealing that they’re dealing with ghosts, they bring back con woman Kelsey (Jessie Ennis) to play the role of Andrea, which naturally backfires. Elsewhere, Sam looks into ancestry testing to learn more about Hetty’s lineage, revealing that she’s not royalty, but she’s actually of Irish descent. Gasp!
Ghosts Season 4, Episode 10 Finally Showcases a Real Change in Isaac
Since the season premiere, “Patience” and “Sad Farnsby,” Isaac has been toying a delicate line between saying he’s changed and not proving that he has. We get some meaningful signs of the right steps during his honest conversation with Nigel; however, his decision to step down from the restaurant’s responsibilities while fully allowing Sam and Jay to keep the money is the action necessary to authenticate his growth. Now, I don’t think anyone wants him to change too much of his ways because who’d he be without his snark and dramatic antics? Still, this is a great point to allow some of his more selfless qualities to come to the surface.
The episode wastes no more time dragging this narrative farther than it already has, and it’s delightful that the writers choose to once again focus on Isaac’s character development. There are still ways for him to evolve, and this step shows us that he is trying. It’s a step that authenticates how growth isn’t linear but it requires conscious effort without any expectations. And this is Isaac doing something good for those he cares about.
Hetty’s Worst Nightmare
Ghosts Season 4, Episode 10, “The Not-So-Silent Partner,” doesn’t give us Hetty’s superpower yet, but it does reveal a shocking secret that has her twisted into knots. Hetty Woodstone is her biggest nightmare—the descendant of Irish ancestry. Yet, that’s not all, and part of the reason this secret makes for a great episode beyond the hilarious bits is the fact that Thor’s known all along, which gives us a chance to get another heartfelt moment between the characters.
It’s been a while since we’ve gotten anything related to Thor and Hetty to remember how he’s looked out for her and how he’s been there. So, when the secret’s out, and we learn that this is the one thing Thor’s actually kept from the others (Flower included), it makes for an even more significant revelation. I was vocal about my frustrations with him and how Sas’ secret came out in “A Very Arondekar Christmas,” so it tells us plenty that he chose to keep this one quiet. Like Isaac, Thor has a selfish streak, too. And it’s riveting how this episode essentially paints the two characters, allowing us to understand how deeply they actually care about those in their lives.
It also makes for a great performance between Devan Chandler Long and Rebecca Wisocky because the sincerity in their dynamic is a special part of the series that makes the relationship profoundly wholesome. I’d be remiss if I also didn’t mention how shocking it is to hear him, of all characters, vocalize how important it is that we remember humans are humans, no matter where they come from. (Except for Danes, in his eyes. But you know what, maybe one day we’ll get there, too.)
Hetty being Irish is interestingly something that can maybe tie to the revelation of what her ghost power is. Or, it might not, but regardless, it’s the type of development that I feel is going to lead her character to even more growth that’ll be thoroughly intriguing to watch. Ghosts Season 4, Episode 10, “The Not-So-Silent Partner,” expertly weaves this revelation into an important reminder of where hatred comes from and, ultimately, why it’s wrong.
Stray Thoughts
- “When a regular girl becomes a princess.” We all caught that A Christmas Prince reference, right?
- I know that none of us are shocked by Hetty being Irish, but like God, what a reveal still!
- “I think we sometimes forget that Sam hit her head.” TOOK ME OUT.
- “Flaming red hair with alabaster skin?” That’s so very specific, Trevor. It’s almost like you lay awake at night and think about that hair and that skin quite often. I see you. We all see you.
- We also see Hetty sprawled dramatically to parallel how Trevor reacted during “The Work Retreat.” Say it with me: kindred spirits.
- Wild how these two didn’t think of the Mahesh lie in the first place, but then again, we wouldn’t have a dramatic episode if they had.
- Thor frustrates me a lot, but he always gets me when he decides to be soft and kind.
- I wouldn’t even know where to start with the Colin Farrell rabbit hole they fall in. I support this so much.
- ENYA! ENYA! ENYA!
