Miss Scarlet Season 6, Episode 3 Highlights: ‘The Delivery’

It’s not every show that can fully shift an episode’s focus from its main character to another and still succeed at maintaining the audience’s attention, but that’s a gift Miss Scarlet often excels in, especially when the shift turns toward Ansu Kabia’s Moses Valentine.

As a fan favorite character, it’s always incredible when Moses returns, and no matter what the case itself is, his presence immediately makes every scene better. And in Season 6 especially, it’s lovely to see how much ease there is in the character interactions while he’s around.

Moses’ presence alone is indeed a highlight as Ansu Kabia’s performances consistently give us something delightful and memorable to hold onto. But in “The Delivery,” the bit of news that we get that he’s expecting a child with his wife is so precious to think about. There’s also comfort in the understanding that his dynamic with Eliza hasn’t changed and that the trust between them is still going strong. See, it’s the little things.

In addition, while he’s worked with Scotland Yard before, it’s also reassuring to see him and Alexander talk to each other with respect and admiration. Inspector Blake is fully aware of his importance because of how much Eliza talks about him, and Moses can also see how important Blake is to Eliza. The quiet beats we get during the in-between of Moses recounting the case are once again why we started doing highlights for the show. The cases are riveting, yes, but it’s the character moments in the stillness that remain the most memorable. And to give Eliza the chance to affirm just how much she trusts Blake to Moses is a plus.

It’s also easy to appreciate that “The Delivery” emphasizes the significance of Eliza and Moses’ friendship. He’s one of the first few people to have ever shown her the level of respect she deserves, and the same goes for him. Their loyalty to one another is one of the most compelling additions to the show, making everything all the more thrilling. Friendships in this line of work aren’t easy to keep, yet for six seasons now, every time these two share a scene together, there’s a light that’s unlike any other dynamic. It’s also so hugely important for people to talk well behind your back, so the fact that Moses has confirmation that Eliza sees his value is comforting on so many levels.

The same can be said about how his follow-up question is about her happiness, revealing that it’s as important to him as his would be to Eliza. So really, on every level, it’s lovely to see two men who matter so much to Eliza get this kind of screen time to get to know each other. By allowing the dynamics to grow stronger, it helps ground the show while simultaneously allowing the episode to be even more personal. Plus, the ending with Nash’s involvement from a distance really is the cherry on top.
