High Potential Season 2, Episode 11, “NPC” Spoilers Ahead
High Potential doesn’t just deliver one of its most intriguing cases in “NPC,” but it fully changes the dynamics in more ways than one. Interestingly, after Selena finally stood up to him in last week’s “Grounded,” Wagner isn’t even in this week’s episode, but we finally get Susan Kelechi Watson as Adam’s ex-fiancée Lucia, and it’s glorious.
The best part of a procedural that’s as sharp as High Potential is that I want it on air for a long, long time. It’s not every show where the entire ensemble cast is so easy to adore as this one, so we’re here for the long haul. And that’s also especially the case when we’ve got a romantic relationship we’re rooting for.
High Potential Season 2, Episode 11 Introduces Karadec’s Ex, Lucia and Delivers a Second Chance at Love
Normally, the possibility of another person getting between a beloved pairing is a hard no. But I’ll never be the person who roots against a character played by Watson. Simultaneously, when it comes to Adam and Morgan, we’re in it for the long haul. This is a slow, slow burn—the kind of romance that’ll maybe come to fruition in Season 5 or 6, if not earlier by some miracle. So before that happens, we may get a lot of people going in and out of their lives. We already had it with Morgan when she briefly dated Tom. And there’s also the prospect of Roman, plus what’ll happen when they eventually find him.
But ultimately, Adam and Lucia giving things another try after he was a problem in the relationship is such an important matter because it’ll continue to teach him how to be a better partner to someone. He’s not only learned a lot from Morgan, but he continues to learn from her, and how that’ll impact his relationship with Lucia is going to be so fascinating to see. My only hope is that when they do eventually break up again, it’s from a realization that they’re simply not it for each other. I don’t want to see the show make Lucia out to be a bad person, nor do I want anything awful or life-threatening to happen to her. I want a cordial breakup.
Because so much of the reason why these moments work in High Potential Season 2, Episode 11, “NPC” is that the show understands these characters are a found family. Morgan and Soto both care about Karadec and want the best for them, but their pestering also makes the beats in between a whole lot of fun.
Morgan’s Look at the End Is Telling – Big Time
How the episode is blocked and directed, coupled with the music swelling right as we catch a glimpse of Kaitlin Olson’s expression in those final few moments, isn’t just some angsty directorial decision. It’s not just because she’s pretty and we all love her. The creative decision to ensure that viewers see her giddy one minute and contemplative the next is no small feat—it’s intentional. It means something.
Here’s the thing: whether Karadec or Morgan realizes it, something is happening between them. They’re indescribably attached to each other, and the intimacy they continue to fortify with every interaction develops into something bigger with every case.
Someone somewhere is going to lock in on their feelings before the two of them crack themselves wide open and see just how big the other’s spot in their hearts is. But until that happens, Morgan’s heart might pinch a little. She may chalk it up to the fact that their closeness may be threatened or that she’s confused, but here in this moment, a part of her realizes that everything’s about to change.
And it’ll change even more when we find Roman alive because I can’t imagine the show killing him off. People are going to continue coming in and out of their lives, and the stings it’ll cause will someday help them realize who their perfect fit has been all along. These moments will seem even bigger then, too. It’ll all make such perfect sense, and it’s admirable that the show’s continuing to give us the best kind of crumbs.
