High Potential Season 2, Episode 13 Highlights: ‘In the Driver’s Seat’

Oz, Karadec and Morgan in High Potential Season 2, Episode 13.

High Potential isn’t as thrilling in “In the Driver’s Seat” the way that it was in “The Faust in the Furious,” but it’s still a mostly riveting episode that delivers important moments. The case is somewhat intriguing, yet as with most episodes, it’s the points in between that leave a mark with this show.

More than anything, having the show back is what’s most exciting because somehow, no brief hiatus has felt longer than this.

It’s hard not to pay attention to the difference in Karadec’s interactions with Lucia versus how he is with Morgan. He’s lighter, more carefree, and unguarded with Morgan—his facial expressions even differ. I can’t help but feel that it’s something Daniel Sunjata is doing intentionally to show us that Karadec is trying really hard with Lucia, but you shouldn’t have to try so hard in a relationship. Understandably, he wants to make things work because he knows where it all went wrong, but at the same time, it isn’t. The walls before them feel fighter than ever.

It’s also worth noting that we know he’s different now, and Lucia even notices the changes in him. Thankfully, he rightfully acknowledges that it’s because of his partner, Morgan, but his body language also shows us that things aren’t as seamless with Lucia. He wants to do things right this time, but so much of his growth is because Morgan has given him the safe space to be himself. She pushes him where need be, and as a result, he handles things much better than he would’ve in the past.

Morgan and Her Kids Continue to Be a Gift

One of my favorite things about High Potential continues to be the dynamic between Morgan and her kids. Plus, it feels especially lovely to have these moments with both Ava and Elliot after last week’s episode. Right now, everything she’s doing is to ensure a better future for them than the one she had. They don’t have to compete for her love, and they don’t have to do anything special to earn it. She’s proud of them exactly as they are, and the small detail that they both want to spend time with each other, and as a family, is making my heart really happy, considering we might get more angst soon.

It’s also telling that we get news about Roman in High Potential Season 2, Episode 13, “In the Driver’s Seat.” Now that Arthur’s in custody, and the man from the photos is in the hospital, we learn that he was the one who took Roman in the first place. And while we had our suspicions, the clarification in this episode is a good thing to have. Narratively, it’s also a good thing because the Roman arc is something we need concrete answers on, at least with his whereabouts. We can maybe keep pushing revelations until Season 3, but with the amount of time passing, the stakes keep getting higher so it’s making everything all the more agonizing.

Stray Thoughts

  • Once again, Daphne’s warddrobe is everything.
  • KARADEC’S SNEEZE.
  • The Roman scenario keeps making me nervous.
