Happy’s Place Season 2, Episode 14, “Borrowin’ Trouble” Spoilers Ahead
After the events of “A New Chapter” and a two-week hiatus, Happy’s Place returns with a bittersweet episode that’s equal parts fascinating and genuinely a little sad. It’s not the kind of episode that I’d rewatch, but it’s simultaneously one that still feels relevant for the story.
Cheri Oteri returns as Monica, the health inspector we initially met in “Mouse in the House,” and she gives us an interesting perspective into the character while simultaneously allowing us to understand where Bobbie’s heart still lies. The humor blends well with the emotions, allowing the dynamics to shine in an episode that could’ve otherwise fumbled with too many dramatic antics.
Happy’s Place Season 2, Episode 14 Gets the Wrong Message About Talking – Sort Of
It’s riveting that all the men and all the women are separated this week, and the men come to the conclusion that talking is what got them in trouble in the first place. No, Emmett, it’s the fact that you kept the secret for months that led you here. But the reality is that so much of this episode, in a lot of ways, makes sense and feels like the exact thing we need to usher us into the final few episodes. This is a common way that men think when there aren’t women around to knock some sense into them, yet the conversations are still engaging where complexities are concerned.
I’m not entirely sure that Emmett and Bobbie are in the right place to get back together this season, and knowing we have a renewal, it does make me think everything will be drawn out a bit longer to ensure that we still have some build-up and angst back up. Simultaneously, I have to admire the women giving Monica a place to vent because the series often does a great job of highlighting friendships. The result of this could’ve been really great, but for the sake of some love triangle, that’s where I’d draw the line because I’d much rather have the friendships stay intact, and I hope we get there.
There’s also plenty of room for there to be a very odd friendship, given the nature of the series being a sitcom, and that’s also something that can be lovely here. At the end of the day, however, what’s ultimately so pleasant in this episode is seeing these characters grow from their mistakes and misunderstandings. I want Emmett to understand that in the future, conversations are going to be the very thing that allows him and Bobbie to have a healthier relationship. I want Bobbie not to bottle things up.
Overall, while Happy’s Place Season 2, Episode 14, “Borrowin’ Trouble” doesn’t give us a huge amount, it still provides the laughter necessary that makes the show the delightful escape we need. It continues to floor me that Bobbie’s heart remains bigger than everything else, and everyone in her path really is the luckiest solely for knowing her.
