In general, The Hunger Games franchise isn’t for the faint-hearted. Half the time, I have no idea why I’m invested, but then other times, I rewatch the movies or think about a small detail and remember why. Suzanne Collins infused something so deeply human into these stories that we need them for hope. For a reminder of how hard people fight behind the scenes. Or, in this case, right in front of the public for everyone to see. And of all the books, Sunrise on the Reaping is my most anticipated movie yet.
Here’s everything we know so far.
What Is Sunrise on the Reaping About?
Pain. That’s what it’s about. Sunrise on the Reaping is all pain, bigger than and maybe even worse than Mockingjay, because we know the end. We’ve seen it. It’s not worth all these sacrifices and heartaches. But still, we’re all here because Collins wrote one of the most sensational prequel stories of all time, and I’m still haunted by it.
If someone were to ask me right at this second what the last line in any of my books is, I would fumble. I don’t remember. I genuinely don’t. But if someone were to ask me what the last line of Sunrise on the Reaping is, I remember. “I love you like all-fire, too.” It’s heart-wrenching, raw, and so vulnerable, leaving the past drenched in darkness while we know that the present isn’t full of beauty either. So, yeah, Sunrise on the Reaping is about pain.
As we know from the original books and movies, Haymitch became a mentor after his time at the 50th Hunger Games, otherwise known as the Quarter Quell. Twice as brutal. Twice as dark. Twice as painful.
Is There a Trailer?
The trailer is here, and I haven’t stopped crying since. Bright and beautiful in a way that’s so impressive, it’s already obvious from the start how perfectly cast everyone is. Given the franchise’s history and everything we had in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, I knew we’d be in for something exceptional, but no part of me could’ve prepared for the absolute wonder in every frame. And to think, this isn’t even a fraction of the film? No words.
