We’re Going Back to Barry’s Bay for Every Year After Season 2

Michael Bradway as Charlie Florek

It’s official, we’re headed back to Barry’s Bay, and Charlie Florek lying on the floor and having a heart attack while he’s all by himself won’t be the last shot we’ll see. Every Year After Season 2 is not only greenlit, but reports at Deadline note that they’ll be taking inspiration from One Golden Summer, which case, thank heavens.

In a time and place where it’s really hard to trust that shows will actually get renewals unless they blow up, it’s incredible that we’re getting to see Every Year After. However, personally, I’m going to need that Alice Everly casting announcement to fully let go of the breath I’m holding and believe that our girl is home. (I say ours, but clearly, at this point, no one is a bigger fan of the book than Michael Bradway, and the fact that he’s been consistently championing for her to come aboard during press is everything to me.)

There’s something really rewarding about book-to-screen adaptations when it’s obvious that the actors care about the source material as much as the fans do. From the start, Charlie’s characterizations in Every Year After Season 1 were giving us tremendous hints to the fact that Bradway is familiar with One Golden Summer, so it’ll be incredible to see him actually play with a softer and happier side of Charlie. The heartache and drama are understandable in Season 1, but Every Year After Season 2 needs to give us some of the happier moments in the book.

Showrunner Amy B. Harris has expressed an interest in five seasons, and while I’d love to stay in Barry’s Bay longer than two seasons, with the way the industry tends to fluctuate, renewals aren’t always guaranteed. That said, if we at least get Charlie and Alice’s story, then play with the rest later, it’ll be fulfilling still, no matter what happens.
