Sid’s Return to Slow Horses Is the Best Kind of News

Olivia Cooke as Sid in Slow Horses Season 6.

The first thing a friend of mine said to me when I first started Slow Horses, while it was already in its second season, was, “Don’t get attached to Sid.” Tough, because within seconds, I adored her, and with the way my romance author brain operates, I could immediately see the potential pairing with River.

So, naturally, when she was declared dead at the end of the season, I lost a bit of hope despite Roddy’s comments that she could potentially be alive. I know exactly how TV works in that when we don’t see a body, there’s the possibility for a character’s return, but I also know how scheduling conflicts work. And then, we got the whole thing with Louisa, so I almost stopped hoping that we’d see Sid in Slow Horses again.

But Sid’s officially coming back to the show, and it’s exciting that the trailers and stills aren’t hiding it. Going into the season while fully knowing she’s about to return makes everything twice as exciting. There’s also the detail that I feel incredibly validated by the fact that I’ve been begging for the show to give River a love interest, despite people telling me it’d be a bad idea. (It’s a great idea, thank you very much.) That love interest should’ve always been Sid.

While we don’t know how long Sid will be part of the new season or if anything will even happen with River, I’m thrilled to basically have my bantering little weirdos back on my screen. Olivia Cooke was easily one of the standout performers in the first season, and the thought of having her back is particularly exciting regardless of what happens in this new chapter.

Judging by the trailer, Slow Horses Season 6 is about to be one of the show’s most high stakes arc yet, and with Sid’s return, I can only imagine just how deadly everything could get because three years is a long time to stay gone.
