One thing about me? I’ll gobble up any version of a Jane Austen adaptation Hollywant wants to throw at us. A murder mystery spin-off set after the events of Pride and Prejudice, titled Death Comes to Pemberley? Yes, please. Another adaptation of a beloved movie like the latest Sense and Sensibility? Say less. Zombies? I’m listening. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is very much a thing that exists, and it’s now finally streaming on Netflix just in time for spooky season.
As someone who generally doesn’t do zombies because I can’t handle it 90% of the time, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies scratches the horror itch without forcing me to invest in a long story where we’ll likely lose a bunch of beloved characters. It’s the same narrative we know and love, but set in a world of zombies, and it works. Innovative and an absolute blast, it delivers something for a whole new audience while staying true to the heart of the book in a way that gives it a fresh spin.
Perfect for authentic horror lovers and certified scaredy-cats like me, it’s the kind of adaptation you have to watch at least once to see the full scope of just how universal Austen’s stories really are. The fact that we can get movies like this and classic adaptations is what makes her stories so beloved.
And while this might be a controversial opinion, I’m ready to admit it proudly: Lily James might actually be my favorite Elizabeth Bennet. Sam Riley is also a delicious Darcy, and the adaptation also features icons like Matt Smith and Lena Headey. If nothing else, it’s guaranteed to be an entertaining feat that keeps you on the edge of your seat (or hiding underneath a blanket). Either way, you won’t want to turn it off until after the credits roll. 2026 is also the ten-year anniversary of the film, which makes this spooky season the perfect time to rewatch.
