Happy’s Place Season 1, Episode 2, “Tapped Out” Spoilers Ahead
Some time has passed in Happy’s Place since Bobbie and Isabella learned they’re sisters, and the adjustment is still challenging. But it’s not one the sisters can’t pull through in a hilariously wild second episode that truly kickstarts the show’s antics.
When Isabella learns that Takoda fixes every minor issue in the bar without any sort of compensation, she questions Bobbie’s means of doing business. And later, when she decides to follow her lead, Isabella’s actions still frustrate Bobbie to the point where she wordlessly admits that Isabella isn’t wanted. It isn’t until Emmett lectures Bobbie that she understands how she should really be treating Isabella.
Happy’s Place Season 1, Episode 2 Is All About Perspective
Perspective is everything, and “Tapped Out” gives viewers an uproarious exploration of it. Even though she accepts that her new sister is half-owner, Bobbie still isn’t okay with sharing everything she has with Isabella. She sees her involvement in the business as a nuisance, but when Emmett boldly tells her how unreasonable she’s being, Bobbie realizes where she’s wrong. While she got the chance to know their father, Isabella was left in the dark. She felt unwanted, not just with their father, but ultimately everywhere else. This realization dawning on Bobbie marks the show’s actual turning point.
Abandonment is why Isabella tries so hard to abide by the rules because somewhere deep down, the absence of all the love she’s wanted leads to the belief that if she’d just done things differently… But that’s not how it works, is it? It’s never about what they could’ve done, but it’s a direct result of the choices others have made. It’ll be interesting to explore all of this through Isabella’s character, but for now, it’s also vital for her to vocalize all she wants and bring attention to how she’s trying.
When this finally happens, Happy’s Place Season 1, Episode 2, “Tapped Out,” gives us a hysterical moment where Bobbie apologizes while yelling. The scene is also a testament to Reba McEntire’s charm because anyone else would look utterly ridiculous while she manages to make it iconic.
The two of them patch things up after Bobbie admits that she needs to be looking at Isabella like “A sister who’s been given to her.” Later, at her house, when she learns that Isabella’s been living in a motel, she offers her daughter’s room for her new residence. Time passes interestingly in sitcoms, and even while we don’t have the exact duration between the pilot episode and “Tapped Out,” we have enough where this dynamic shift feels believable.
No, the two women aren’t going to find total peace, and yes, they’ll most definitely clash in many situations, but what they establish in this episode is that there’s a clear path to moving forward. As much as Bobbie likes her solitude, it’s evident that she hates it when people feel left out. She isn’t ever going to cut Isabella out of her life or from the restaurant. She’s going to put up with it. The generational means by which their differences will impact the restaurant will be outright hilarious for us to watch but deeply irritating for them, yet those moments will also undoubtedly result in the best character development.
Some things at the bar do need to change. Isabella isn’t wrong about compensation, and this is a topic the show can certainly explore. At the same time, Bobbie’s last comment about small business owners not getting paid is momentarily funny, but it’s a tremendous issue to discuss that’ll reflect how wrong this is in the real world. Happy’s Place Season 1, Episode 2, “Tapped Out,” is yet another great episode that’s making the series a must-watch.
