Ghosts Season 4, Episode 17, “His Girl Shiki” Spoilers Ahead
We’re growing closer to the end of the season, and Ghosts drops a new revelation and a cliffhanger in “His Girl Shiki.” This one’s all about Sas, and considering it feels like we haven’t seen nearly enough of him this season, I love that we’re getting an important arc in two parts.
Keeping his promise to find Sas another roaming ghost, Pete returns to Woodstone Mansion with a 40s Hollywood screenwriter named Joan. Elsewhere, Thor is trying to get revenge on Alberta because she missed his birthday party. Sam’s also struggling a bit with Isaac’s novel, but more on that later.
Ghosts Season 4, Episode 17 Signals an End to Sas’ Perils
Despite the fact that both Sas and Joan are storytellers, she quickly clocks the fact that he has a tendency to attach himself to unavailable ghosts. This results in a huge revelation for Sas where he realizes that it all comes back to the fact that he can’t get over Shiki. It certainly doesn’t help that she’s also still a ghost and somewhere out there, so it’s fascinating that the writers are continuing to play on this narrative instead of letting Sas easily move forward.
When he voices these feelings aloud, Pete offers to find out if Shiki’s still interested in Sas. When she realizes that Sas did court her in their time, she expresses interest. Realizing that this would probably confuse Sas even more, the ghosts and Sam decide to lie, telling him that she doesn’t have feelings so he can finally move on with Joan. And then poor Jay reveals everything because he’s once again out of the loop.
Now, Ghosts Season 4, Episode 17, “His Girl Shiki,” ends with a meta cliffhanger, but what sticks out astoundingly throughout is Román Zaragoza’s performance. There’s such precious adoration lingering inside of him that comes out in the face of uncertainties, and I adore that he’s bringing it back to the surface with his feelings for Shiki. I’ve always sort of believed that Sas could maybe be demisexual because it’s clear he has a hard time without the emotional connection, so I wonder if the show might start to play on that with Shiki if the plan to move him through the ghost trap works.
Regardless, nothing on the show makes me as emotional as the possibility of second chances for the ghosts, so if Sas does finally get the opportunity to step up and show Shiki how he feels, there will be waterworks here. And likely an essay from me.
Silly Vengeance
Thor can be the funniest character when he fixates on something silly, like a thousand-year grudge, but Alberta is even more amusing when she doubles down. Still, the emotional moment we get between the two of them where she voices that she didn’t attend his party because she’d still been a scared new ghost is actually lovely.
Ghosts Season 4, Episode 17, “His Girl Shiki,” doesn’t let this silly blunder stay; however, when she ditches their newly appointed friend date, it almost feels like going backward a bit. I’m going to hope that we can get something good from this because the conversation matters still, and it made my little heart squeeze.

- Absolutely no reason to eye Hetty like that when thinking of a hot Mrs Claus casting, Trevor.
- Thor being a child is both hilarious and so stupidly annoying.

- It’s always so funny when Thor brings up therapy.
- I love it when Ghosts switch up dynamics. Everything about Thor and Alberta is so wholesome.
- He’s gonna try to cross the boundary.
- “Does this man need to get some?” “He does.”
