The final Wicked: For Good trailer is here, giving us the last major preview before it flies into theaters this November. It comes with a darker tone than the Part One promos, reflecting the deeper themes and peril of the Wicked sequel.
Where the first For Good trailer kept major details under wraps, this final trailer isn’t quite so spoiler-wary. We’re getting clear peeks at iconic character reveals, beloved songs, and more. Here’s everything we noticed and are already obsessed (or, in Glinda’s words, “obsessulated”) with!
A Celebration Throughout Oz
The trailer features three of Wicked‘s most beloved Act Two numbers. We start with Ariana Grande’s “Thank Goodness” over a Glinda-centric montage. Colorful and gaudy, it’s a celebration of her transforming into “Glinda the Good” — a propaganda figure, with Morrible always lurking and pulling the strings. Morrible even gifts Glinda with her iconic bubble (then rolls her eyes at Glinda’s enthusiasm). Fiyero seems less enthused, chafing at the phoniness and reminding Glinda that Elphaba could and did resist the same offers.
But the celebration ends abruptly when Elphaba flies through the skies, writing “Our Wizard Lies.” It’s the start of a pattern in the Wicked: For Good trailer, with celebrations seemingly interrupted by Elphaba and her allies. Later on, what appears to be Glinda and Fiyero’s wedding is halted by a stampede of released animals — which Morrible, naturally, blames on Elphaba.
Changed For Good
The majority of the trailer, unsurprisingly, focuses on the fractured-yet-powerful friendship between Elphaba and Glinda. The witches confront each other in Munchkinland, with dialogue lifted directly from the musical’s (in)famous “catfight” scene. Erivo’s fierce rendition of “No Good Deed” underscores just how bad things have gotten in Oz. I cannot wait to hear it in full!
But, of course, Wicked: For Good is ultimately about the enduring love between these women. “Wonderful” now appears to be a trio between the witches and the Wizard, a moment of Technicolor levity before it all falls apart. Glinda grabs Elphaba’s boots from a hiding spot, then shows up at Elphaba’s hideout.
And, from the looks of things, “For Good” is going to be an even bigger heartbreaker in this movie. “Just look at me,” Elphaba tells Glinda. “Not with your eyes — with theirs.” Grande and Erivo’s voices blend beautifully on those iconic harmonies. Both women are weeping as they hug. And honestly? I’m crying already, too!
Surprisingly Big Reveals in the Wicked: For Good Trailer
I’m genuinely shocked by a few of the reveals in the Wicked: For Good trailer! We see an utterly magical shot of Elphaba and Fiyero literally levitating, surrounded by stardust, in what can only be “As Long As You’re Mine.” There’s also, uh, another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of the pair that makes it quite clear what that song is actually about.
Nessarose makes her first reappearance in the trailer, too. The creative team previously mentioned changing the circumstances of Nessa’s shoes from the stage musical, and here we see what they mean: Nessa now has the power of flight, too.
And then there are the big spoilers. Seriously, do not read any further if you don’t already know the “twists” and character reveals. In one clip, the Tin Man, immediately post-transformation, speaks with a very familiar voice. In another, Elphaba strokes the Scarecrow’s cheek, with a blurry trapdoor visible behind her. Yes, Wicked has been on Broadway for 22 years, but I’m still surprised they alluded to such major spoilers in the movie trailer!
