Happy’s Place Season 2, Episode 7 Review: ‘An Accountant Prepares…’

Steve auditions for a commericial in Happy's Place Season 2, Episode 7.

Happy’s Place is back since its mid-season hiatus, and we’re still keeping secrets that are going to be harmful to Bobbie and Emmett’s romantic relationship. But at the same time, it’s a solid showcase of what it means to be honest with someone and how that very honesty can be the thing that allows them to improve on their craft.

Pablo Castelblanco steals the episode with some dramatic meta-acting to give us all the necessary comedic beats to make the otherwise heavier moments light. There’s also something to be said about how so much of this season feels like it’s giving us really small but significant beats of the in-between, and it makes having a sitcom in our lives extra delightful.

Happy’s Place Season 2, Episode 7 Gives Isabella and Emmett a Moment to Bond

Isabella’s involvement at Happy’s continues to be so rewarding, and every moment of this episode proves it. But it also complicates everything, considering the secret looming over all their heads. Still, it’s a lovely detail for Isabella to hear that her bluntness and how she approaches matters are similar to her father’s. Even more lovely is the scene’s execution and how it comes to life through heartfelt performances from both Belissa Escobedo and Rex Linn.

The transparency in this scene is also hugely important because everyone can grow and evolve, even in the areas and crafts they’re really good at. So, Isabella criticizing the dish does actually allow Emmett room for growth, and simultaneously, it’ll hopefully allow him to understand that when you care about someone, you tell them the truth. It’s something we don’t just do for family, but those we genuinely love and appreciate.

“An Accountant Prepares…” Brings Out the Drama and the Bromance

More often than not, Steve is the character I relate to most, except for when going into work when I don’t have to. And no, being bored isn’t exactly fun for an anxious person, but you’re telling me this man doesn’t have countless hobbies he can be perfecting? I don’t buy it. What I do buy, however, is that he’d absolutely be extra dramatic when it comes to the art of acting, and it’s hilarious how much fun Castelblanco is clearly having in this episode.

Plus, bring in Takoda and have him say the words he’ll never audition for anything if they don’t want his bro at the same time, then give us the ending that results in Steve training him, and we have an absolute doozy on our hands. Their friendship continues to be one of my favorite pairings on the show, and I’d take a whole series of the two of them just playing off one another. It’s not only fun, but the platonic chemistry is exceptional on all fronts.

“The Accountant Prepares…” isn’t the strongest episode of Happy’s Place, but it’s still a whole lot of fun to give us a down period before what I imagine may be a not-so-great time. Because no matter what comes from Emmett eventually revealing the secret, I imagine it’s not going to be a walk in the park. Regardless, I need it.
