When it comes to Prime Video adaptations, we’re all likely waiting for them with bated breath at this point. The streamer knows exactly what it’s doing, and it consistently delivers something worthwhile, like in Off Campus, Every Year After, and all others that’ve been announced. We’ve read the books, we’re obsessed with them, and we know what’s coming. But rarely does something unexpected pull me right in from the trailer when I know very little about the property, and that’s Megan Park’s Sterling Point.
But that shouldn’t be shocking, considering My Old Ass was one of my favorite movies of 2024, and Park’s vision blew me away just moments into the film. And really, that much is true with the first few seconds of the Sterling Point trailer. Gracie Abrams’ “Look at My Life” is the perfect needle drop to thrust us into a story that’s likely going to be brimming with drama, but simultaneously rife with so much heart that I’m certain we’ll have to have a pack of tissues on hand.

Starring Ella Rubin, Amélie Hoeferle, Keen Ruffalo, Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, Bo Bragason, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jay Duplass, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Missi Pyle, and more, the original series already looks like it’s going to be a stunning hit for found family fans. The trailer showcases lakeside views and long-kept secrets rising to the surface, all while relationships stir in the background, and that sounds like the best kind of show to watch in the summertime when things are quieter.
Ultimately, while I can’t speak for everyone else, Park’s My Old Ass is so special to me that it immediately made me trust her as a creator. The dialogue she writes is so achingly raw that when she taps into the painful corridors of a woman’s heart, the humor and emotions all come across organically. It’s so relatable, I could cry just thinking about it. It’s why I’m sure that if nothing else, Sterling Point is going to give us moments that feel gut-wrenching and wholesome at the same time, which we already see in the trailer when Rubin’s character, Annie, asks Hoeferle’s Ramona if she can hug her because she looks so much like their dead mom.
Sterling Point releases on August 5, exclusively on Prime Video. Check out the trailer below and cry with me in the comments.
