With Avengers: Doomsday releasing this year, Marvel is back in full force with its Hall H panels at San Diego Comic Con. There’s a lot of exciting information we’ve gotten so far, like the fact that Ryan Gosling will take on the role of Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider. But what’s sticking out to me is the casting of David Jonsson in Black Panther 3, which is set to release in theaters on December 15, 2028.

The emotional and heartbreaking sequel, Wakanda Forever, which helped us mourn King T’Challa’s death because of Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing, is still so hard to rewatch. But knowing that the story will continue with the character’s legacy and simultaneously involve a great actor at its helm is incredibly exciting.
I’ve been a big fan of David Jonsson’s work since Rye Lane, and the actor’s ability to effortlessly convey so much is going to ensure that the role will be everything we could want and more. The now Oscar-winning legend Ryan Coogler will also return to direct the film, giving us exactly the kind of vision we need with the heart that’s particularly lacking in the MCU.
Letitia Wright will also return as Shuri, and so will Winston Duke as M’Baku. We don’t yet have confirmation on whether we’ll see his on-screen mother, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, but here’s to hoping.
The applause and reaction to Jonsson’s casting are so wholesome to witness through the videos from SDCC that my heart’s so full just seeing it all. The small glimpse we had of a younger Toussaint aka T’Challa II in Wakanda Forever was an instant tear-jerker, and so was this moment, showcasing that there really is something so special about these movies that resonates with the audiences. I might have a lot of Marvel fatigue, but there’s so much excitement about what this movie can deliver.
