The Love Hypothesis Trailer Delivers a Treat in Every Frame

Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman in The Love Hypothesis

There are few things as exciting and simultaneously terrifying as a book-to-screen adaptation when you really, really love every page of the original text. That’s the case with anything Ali Hazelwood writes. (It’s the case with a lot of authors because the romance genre is full of inimitable writers!) Though, thankfully, where Prime Video is concerned, we’ve had some pretty incredible adaptations this year, and since the casting was announced, The Love Hypothesis has been a near-constant thought on all our minds. Now that the trailer’s been released, we’ve got a feast in spades, giddy as ever and waiting for its fall release.

Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman have been teasing us with deliciously perfect content since filming began, but to see them now? In character? What if I start screaming? Again. Because every little shot in the trailer gives us so much substantial material, I have full confidence in the fact that this movie is going to be one of the best things the genre’s ever seen.

From the small but monumental ways that they’re already embodying their respective characters to that final shot of him tugging at her wrist to stop her from leaving, The Love Hypothesis trailer easily promises a stellar adaptation. There’s a lot of love where the source material is concerned, and every bit of news we’ve gotten thus far, including footage from Obsessed Fest, has actively proven that everyone involved with this movie cares about the book. It’s clear as ever in the trailer, and with the way that we’ve always loved Set It Up around these neck of the woods, we’ve always had full faith in Claire Scanlon as a director.

The fact that we can sit here and dissect every minute detail in the trailer says everything about how the story is fully intact, with the heart of the book on full display. The way Olive calls him Dr. Evil? The first kiss at the water fountain? The question about how tall he is when he carries her? The way Adam looks at her, displaying longing in its most quietly staggering form. The wink? Perfection from start to finish.
