Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 7, “Yes & Baby” Spoilers Ahead
Never has an episode of Ted Lasso been more appropriately titled than “Yes & Baby.” I still have so many questions after last week’s “Don’t Jump Around Much Anymore.” Namely, I remain stressed like a pressure cooker because we now have three episodes left, and I’m terrified that any sort of progress made is going to be ruined with Zelda’s involvement.
In a way, the episode’s yet another new beginning with a revived BELIEVE sign to hopefully take us to a winning finale. Roy and Keeley are one step closer to actually getting back together, and even though Ted himself isn’t ready for the dating apps, he’s at least trying. Simultaneously, Alice is trying even more than anyone else.
Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 7 Takes Us Home With the Lady Greyhounds
Part of what continues to stand out in Ted Lasso this season is how we’re often reminded of how different the sport is for women versus men. They aren’t in the Premier League, and their resources are limited in every way. They’re not making nearly as much to make a comfortable living, and they’re constantly at a disadvantage. The episode’s opening, set to TLC’s “Unpretty,” gutted me a little because it’s so easy to not only care about them, but also to want more of them. And that song choice is particularly harrowing as a ’90s kid because despite how much progress we’ve made, it’s still not enough.
I would’ve taken an entire episode that focused entirely on the women to give us a more intimate understanding of how they all operate off the pitch. But interestingly, Alice is still trying desperately to be more agreeable, and I remain so curious about why. Why does her dynamic with Gemma fluctuate so often? And legitimately, who hurt her to make her think that she’s the problem in every matter and she needs to change herself?
A New BELIEVE Sign Feels Right
Everything about the new BELIEVE sign from last week’s episode feels right, but interestingly, so does the women’s team questioning it, because they’re right: they wouldn’t be here if they didn’t believe. And for them, pep talks aren’t always enough because everything in life is a pep talk for them. We’re having them with ourselves multiple times a day. So the pushback is a really fascinating contrast to how agreeable Alice was being throughout the episode, and it’s also gratifying that she’s the one who puts it up in their locker room, while also adding the additional “and win.”
With three episodes left, it’s going to be really interesting to see where their arc ends compared to the Season 1 finale, “The Hope That Kills You.” Will the women do something completely different, like win that match? Or will a loss continue to change their dynamics with everyone? Either way, I’m eager to find out.
Zelda Continues to Be Stressful
Is anyone else deeply concerned that Zelda is going to try to take the team under her wing, then somehow coerce Rebecca into selling her shares? It’s so hard to trust her as a character, but more than anything, we don’t have a concrete big bad this season to point fingers at someone else. And while neither Rupert nor Nate were ever caricatures of a villain, they were antagonists for a while, so it makes me think this season’s villain is Zelda. I could be completely wrong here, but everything about Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 7, “Yes & Baby,” continues to make me suspicious of her. This is especially the case when Rebecca was so hesitant to trust her before, and now she’s making her an advisor.
Are Roy and Keeley Back Together?
They are not, but Erin is thankfully knocking some sense into Roy and questioning why on earth he’s with her when he’s clearly in love with someone else. And Roy is fully in love with Keeley, as we know from last week, so I really, really hope that this is the last week we have to go through this seesaw with them.
If nothing else, they’ve got to get back together, right? Because at this point, it’d be so silly of him to continue robbing himself of joy while also tormenting her in the process. While he likely doesn’t remember anything that happened at the hospital, if I have to watch Keeley continue to be sad, I might legitimately cry in a way I don’t like crying.
Will We See the Stage Manager Again?
It’s interesting that we still don’t get the Stage Manager’s name (it feels like I need to capitalize it) because I imagine we’ll see her again, then she’ll finally give it to Ted. It’s admirable that he’s taking matters into his own hands and actually trying outside of the apps, but I’m so curious if she really is going to be someone who’ll be in a lasting relationship with him or if he’ll meet someone else.
It seems like the possibilities of any other ships on the show have sailed at this point, so I’m trying really hard to take the canon as it is. But whatever we get, I just want to see more of it. I want more conversations with couples that allow us to get to know the other party the same way we know our core main characters. I want to believe in every moment of their relationship. More importantly, I want these characters to be happy.
