So we’re all listening to Jamie Miller’s “Babydoll” featuring Antonio Cipriano on repeat, right? The original song has already gone quadruple platinum in my house; it’s genuinely all I listen to anymore. That’s going to get a whole lot worse — or better, let’s be honest — now that the version with Cipriano is finally out after months of teases.
If you know anything about this song and are a fan of Off Campus, there’s a great chance that you’re acutely aware of this song’s connection to Cipriano’s character, John Logan, and Grace Ivers, who will be played by India Fowler in Season 2. The fandom has understandably and rightfully made “Babydoll” GraceLogan’s anthem. It matches their yearning-filled story in Elle Kennedy’s The Mistake, and it falls right into why people want Logan’s love poem to become a musical performance in Off Campus. Therefore, it’s absolutely beyond this fan’s wildest dreams that Jamie Miller and Antonio Cipriano have teamed up for a version of the song.
It’s even more wild when you consider that all of this started (to some degree, at least) because the fans championed the song for a couple that has yet to appear in the show. In July, Miller posted that Off Campus reached out to him because of the song. That was more than enough evidence to send me spiraling that the song could appear in the show. A month later, in August, Miller posted a video dancing with Cipriano to the song, later announcing a recording with Cipriano. Now we have the song — and possible confirmation that the song will be in Off Campus. Miller responded to a TikTok comment that asked about the track appearing in Season 2 with a side-eye emoji, which has me, well, side-eyeing that all of this is kind of meant to be.
We likely have a little while to wait to know for certain, which means we can listen to this version of the song until then. Miller and Cipriano’s voices sound so perfect together. The latter adds a new flair to a song that is already irresistible, joyful, and romantic. All the things that are also true about Off Campus. This show knows how to fill the void and keep giving its fans gifts during hiatus. From Ella Bright’s covers being available to stream (and buy on vinyl) and the cast going on stage with Suki Waterhouse and The Beaches, there’s a real tether between this show and its soundtrack. It knows the importance of music, which makes me all the more anticipatory of how it will (because we’re going to continue our positive momentum with manifestation) use “Babydoll.”
