Fourth Wing fans rejoice, Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson have been found at last! After years of speculation, Deadline has officially announced that Esther McGregor, daughter of “That’s f*cking Obi-Wan Kenobi!” Ewan McGregor and Emilio Sakraya have officially been cast as the leads of the live-action adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling romantasy series. McGregor recently starred as Mirren Sinclair in Prime Video’s We Were Liars, based on E. Lockhart’s bestselling novel of the same name, and her credits also include Babygirl and Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door, whereas Sakraya has long been considered a fan favorite fan-cast for shadow daddy, Xaden (*cough* Xaddy *cough*) Riorson.
Fourth Wing follows Violet Sorrengail, the daughter of General Lilith Sorrengail, as she attends Basgiath War College, a brutal military academy where you are divided into one of four Quadrants upon entry: Scribe, Healer, Infantry, or the infamous (*dragon*) Rider Quadrant. While Violet always believed she was destined for the quiet, library-bound existence of a Scribe, her mother believed she was destined for something far greater and dashed all of her dreams when she ordered Violet to enter the Rider Quadrant. Enter: Xaden Riorson, the son of traitor Fen Riorson, who was executed by Violet’s mother and the wing leader of Fourth Wing, who Violet believes will do anything in his power to find a way to make her pay for her mother’s crimes. It is through a series of deadly trials that Violet will not only prove her worth to her mother, but to herself, and learn firsthand that a dragon without its rider is a tragedy, but a rider without their dragon is dead.
Violet’s deadliest trial, however, may be one of her heart where Xaden is concerned, and we are all waiting with bated breath to see these two come to life.
Little is known about the Fourth Wing adaptation at this time beyond the fact that it is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Kilter Films, and Premeditated Productions.
