The Original Under Wraps Is Now on Disney+

I’m typically not someone who cares if a favorite movie of mine gets a remake. No one’s forcing me to watch it, and I can pretend it doesn’t exist if I love the original a lot. But if the remakes wipe the originals from existence, and there’s no place we can watch them? That’s frustrating. For the longest time, the original Under Wraps was nowhere to be found on Disney+, replaced by a remake and sequel that us ’90s kids unfortunately have no interest in.

But now, just in time for spooky season, the original Under Wraps starring Mario Yedidiav, Adam Wylie, Clara Bryant, Bill Fagerbakke, Corinne Bohrer, and more is finally on the streamer. It’s a long time coming, considering the original Disney Channel Halloween movies are some of the best we’ve ever had. Perfect for those of us who can only stomach cozy horror, Under Wraps has it all.

If you never got around to watching it as a kid, the story follows three friends as they accidentally stumble upon a real mummy who’s awakened on Halloween. In their attempt to shield him from the real world and reunite him with his lost love, they bond in the most wholesome manner. As with all Disney original movies at the time, the bonkers plot is a large part of the movie’s charm, and it makes every moment of it work. The way stories were a lot more grounded back then in their attempt to sell hijinks is no small feat, and it’s part of what makes it hold up.

Practical effects always play a huge role in enhancing the narrative in a believable manner, and such is undoubtedly the case with what we get in Under Wraps. The same can be said about most Disney original movies, so if you’re wondering if it’s as incredible as you remember, now’s the time to check it out again.
