Every die-hard fan of The Muppet Christmas Carol who can quote it from beginning to end will also likely always complain about the scene that was cut. This is such common knowledge in pop culture that even people who aren’t as well-versed in the Muppet universe know that there’s a scene missing in the current version that’s streaming on Disney+ and at various other streaming platforms.
But believe it or not, you don’t have to break out the old Blu-ray every time you want to watch because there’s a way to experience the entire thing as it was meant to be consumed. Once, I was too lazy to get out my Blu-ray, so I literally paused the scene right where it was appropriate and watched the deleted version on YouTube, only to resume the movie afterward. But gone are those days because the full version, in its entirety, with the “When Love Is Gone” number is actually available on Disney+.
In order to access this specific version, you have to first click on The Muppet Christmas Carol without pressing play and go to the movie’s home page. From there, you need to hit the “EXTRAS” tab, and there, in the third row, is the full version of the movie, featuring Belle (Meredith Braun) singing “When Love Is Gone.” The deleted scene also gets its own spot in the tab, but the full version is what you want for the ultimate viewing experience.
It’s still so wildly unclear why this scene was cut in the first place when it’s such a beloved moment and integral to Scrooge’s character journey, but at least the streamer is now aware and will allow fans the chance to watch it as it was always meant to be seen. And if you’ve been apparently living under a rock like me in thinking that you had to jump through a few hoops to access it, I’m happy to report that those days are now in the past.
Grab those jelly beans (or apples, whatever you prefer) and watch The Muppet Christmas Carol over and over and over again because there’s no other version that’s more perfect.
