‘Ghosts’ Season 3 Finale: Biggest Unanswered Questions

characters sitting together in the Ghosts Season 3 finale

Ghosts Season 3, Episode 10, “Isaac’s Wedding,” is an absolute doozy. It’s heartbreaking, hilarious, and, up until the final few minutes, not at all stressful. One of the series’s strengths is the transparency and care with which it handles romance arcs. At the same time, the cliffhangers never feel jarring but integral for good storytelling. The Ghosts Season 3 finale isn’t a bad episode, in facts, in more ways than one, objectively, it’s pretty clever.

However, as a viewer (and mostly a fan), it can feel perplexing to come out of it with the uncertainties that’ll follow us until the new season. The fact that we know Ghosts will return for a fourth season is comforting, but we’ve got some burning questions to hold us over.

Are Isaac and Nigel Done Forever After the Ghosts Season 3 Finale?

The number one question on all our minds rightfully centers on Isaac and Nigel and the end of their marital journey. We knew going into their love story that the two men were significantly different from each other. That much isn’t shocking. What’s surprising, however, is how the series leads them this far into their journey only for it to all end after a glowing speech from Pete.

The thing is, Pete isn’t wrong—love does feel like fireworks every day. But after a while, the emotions simmer a bit. They start to feel more comfortable. They become a part of the lovers and they exist with them. Thus, right now, it feels like Isaac is chasing the novelty of basking in the knowledge of what he knows outside of their relationship. These characters aren’t alive, but they still get to live, and in more ways than one, it’s understandable why Isaac would want to stay in that feeling for a little while longer. What he witnessed during the lap dance was new and exciting. It’s human to want to stay in that euphoria.

Love is such a profoundly complex part of our lives, and today, we’re significantly more aware of its messiness than those who came before us. The crux of it the same, but we know enough today to understand what it means to choose for ourselves—to have agency over our lives. Isaac is just realizing this. It’s completely foreign to him, so in a sense, his decision entirely makes sense. They’re trapped, but they aren’t fully confined to this purgatory anymore even if they’re bound to the property.

So does this truly mean Isaac and Nigel are over, or do they need to spend time apart to understand that they’re willing to choose each other despite their differences? I hope it’s the latter, but in complete transparency, I’m not entirely sure where the show wants to take this storyline and how they plan on bringing things to a place that feels earned.

How Much of a Threat Will Patience, the Puritan Ghost, Pose?

Ghosts Season 3 finale leaves viewers with the notion that Patience is now free from the dirt and seeking her vengeance on Isaac. So much so, that she takes him away. It’s not even a possibility. Additionally, how much of a threat will she pose to the entire house? Are we keeping her on the show? Will she come and go like Stephanie and Crash?

There’s a lot that can happen with this arc, but it can also remind Isaac of another life, which could potentially increase his appreciation for his current life. It might be fishing, hoping, and wondering here, but there are a lot of uncertain elements circulating this decision to split the ghost grooms.

There’s plenty to deconstruct when it comes to the Ghosts Season 3 finale, but much of it comes down to waiting because the show knows how to plant seeds. It does a brilliant job of surprising viewers because the writers care about the characters enough to do things that’ll last and prevail.

Stray Thoughts

  • I’m weirdly happy to know that Pete can’t stay away from the property too long. I was nervous we’d stop seeing him frequently.
  • Carol remains the absolute worst.
  • Thor and Flower finally being fully transparent with their feelings and loving each other loudly? Be still my heart.
  • Why is Trevor glued to Hetty? Like, truly, why was the man standing next to her at all times, providing absolutely nothing relevant to the conversation? It’s giving male wife, and I’m here for it. Also, the two of them sitting together at the wedding while most people were coupled up? I see you, Ghosts writers. I see you. Bring them back to me.
  • The wedding was stunning though, which is truly a shame.
  • Jay literally watching a game throughout the whole thing!?!?! I cannot.
