Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters is, without question, one of the best shows on TV right now. Developed by Sharon Horgan, Brett Baer, and Dave Finkel, it takes initiation from the Flemish series Clan and gives viewers a series they’ll remember for years to come. It’s the type of show that could’ve ended after the first season, but it’s now returning for a second. We might’ve been skeptical in the hands of different writers, but with Horgan, we can be confident that we’ll get something earned again.

The series is unique, morbid, surprisingly hilarious, and complex in the manners it addresses through a gorgeous production. Here are five spoiler-free reasons why it should be next on your watchlist.

1. Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters Clever

Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters is about murder. Yes, you read that right. Someone dies in the first episode, and the rest of the season takes us through a series of events to showcase why the murder is justified. It’s then up to the viewers to figure out who did it and why while an insurance agency attempts to question the Garvey sisters.

But that’s not all—Bad Sisters takes us through character journeys that result in some of the most intriguing narratives. The show is whip-smart with fascinating twists and turns that present a unique storyline, no matter how many shows we’ve seen like it. There’s a joke that you’ve seen one murder mystery, then you’ve seen them all, but the series ensures that we’re kept on our toes the entire time, with legitimate motives that keep us questioning.

2. It Centers Sisterhood

One of the best things about Bad Sisters is that it centers around sisterhood, which we’ll always welcome here at Lady Geeks. The women are each so vastly different from one another, but they’re all they have. Their dynamics are fractured at times, tense, and heartbreaking as they clash over realistic matters that, in the end, strengthen their bonds.

Most importantly, nothing is more evident from beginning to end than the fact that the Garvey sisters have each other’s back. There’s nothing they wouldn’t do for each other, and no matter their mistakes, all of them will show up when one of them is in need. They’re bound by blood, but they choose to love each other deeply, and it makes the series incredible.

3. The Performances Are Exceptional

There is not a single performer on Apple TV+’s Bad Sisters who feels miscast or inferior. Every single actor who stars in the show is unquestionably fit for the role and exceptional in it. The five leading women, Sharon Horgan, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene, and Eve Hewson, are undeniable stars who bring memorable performances to our screens from the moment the series starts.

The writing and directing are fantastic, but the performances ground the show and make it the gem it is. It becomes easy to laugh with these characters, cry and mourn with them. It’s easy to get frustrated with them and for them, making the entire viewing experience that much more enthralling.

4. The Characters Are Fleshed Out

On a series that’s so heavily plot-driven, characters could’ve taken a backseat, but that’s not the case, and every player is instead thoughtfully fleshed out and complex in all the best ways. These characters will each leave a mark, allowing the journey toward unveiling the murder to feel much more earned. If you watch the show more than once, it’s also seamless to notice new reasons to appreciate them, which is a testament to both the writing and the performances.

The best type of characters are the ones who pull us through all sorts of emotions. They make us feel everything they do, even when we’re irritated by their circumstances. That’s the case with each of them, and it’s so rewarding to see how their journeys turn out and how they fit together into a gloriously complex mosaic that’s easy to marvel at.

5. Ireland

The show is set in Ireland, and that fact alone is everything. The picturesque towns, seaside views, and every gorgeous sitting makes the series worthy of being on our watch lists. That’s it—let this reason be enough because it’s everything.
