The Rings of Power is a visual feast in more ways than one and has been since its debut season. While the pacing fumbles at times, and old lore bleeds into new additions, the series still manages to deliver something fascinating for every kind of fantasy viewer, and die-hard fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories.
Season 3 is right around the corner, and with San Diego Comic Con taking place this week, we’ve got plenty of news to hold us over while we wait for its fall release.
What Is The Rings of Power Season 3 About?
According to the official synopsis: “Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”
Time jumps aren’t always easy to manage, and this is especially the case for fantasies, but it feels necessary for The Rings of Power and everything we’ve seen so far to get to this point where confrontations come to a head. Whatever the case, we’re seated.
Which Cast Members Are Returning? Who’s New?
The majority of the original cast is returning, but it’s the new additions we’re beaming for. There’s nothing quite as perfect as casting Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, but apart from him, we’re also getting a number of new actors. Simon Pegg will be the voice of the Balrog, Eddie Marsan will star as Thrain of Dwarven, Andrew Richardson will play Anarion, a king of Gondor, Zubin Varla will play a Ringwraith named Khamûl the Easterling, and we’re even seeing Adam Young as an original character named Marnûkh.
Is There a Trailer?
There’s a teaser, and it’s everything we could’ve used to keep the momentum going. Charlie Vickers’ Sauron is at large, and the threats are bigger than ever. The angst that’s palpable in the trailer might just be my favorite thing we’ve gotten from the show yet because the weight of all that’s looming before these characters is so easy to feel that it’s already haunting.
Plus, the small glimpses of Celeborn and Galadriel? Instant tears, right off the bat. There’s something so stunning about the visuals, too. This season could just be the best one yet.
When Will The Rings of Power Season 3 Release?
We’re getting the episodes in batches this year, with four dropping all at once on November 11. Afterward, we’ll be getting two episodes with each drop, five and six releasing on November 18, and seven and eight dropping on November 25.
