Wild Cards Season 2, Episode 10, “Our Lip (Fillers) Are Sealed” Spoilers Ahead
Welcome to ElliMax Chats, a column dedicated solely to highlighting Cole Ellis and Max Mitchell’s interactions during the latest episode of Wild Cards.
Wild Cards’ “Our Lip (Fillers) Are Sealed” doesn’t exactly give us anything substantial when it comes to actual conversations between Max Mitchell and Cole Ellis, but it does deliver a quintessential rom-com moment that’s sizzling, sweet, and meaningful to reveal how they’re both falling for each other.
We’ve seen the films and we read the romance novels. (Some of us have written them, too.) And there’s something so lovely about a woman asking the main male character to help her zip up her dress. The classic beat of watching said woman come down the stairs and how that tends to stun the guy to a state of speechlessness? I love it here. And after they played house in last week’s “Barking Bad,” everything we get here just feels hotter somehow.
For Max and Ellis, this moment in Wild Cards Season 2, Episode 10, “Our Lip (Fillers) Are Sealed,” feels like another gorgeous beat where we get to understand that they’re two people who can have conversations in silence. Conversations they don’t realize they’re having in the first place because all they can do is stare—wonder, question, and marvel at the person standing before them. Ellis doesn’t even try to hide the fact that he’s enamored by the way she looks. He can’t. His whole face projects the emotions he’s feeling on the inside, and she’s able to see it.
It’s a small scene, sure, but it’s such an important one where romance is concerned because it’s an unquestionable sign of partnership. It’s a reminder that at the end of the day, they’re here together, and when they are an actual couple, moments like this will hold even more weight because it’s often the seemingly simple beats that showcase how deeply two people care about each other. The conversation they’re having in silence is one that I imagine we’ll see so much more of later on with more depth, because this is the fun part. This is the part where they just pretend that they aren’t looking at the other as though they hung the moon.
