High Potential Season 2, Episode 5, “Content Warning” Spoilers Ahead
High Potential Season 2 continues to balance a riveting case with the personal lives of our favorite characters in a way that makes every episode an unmistakable blast. And while “Content Warning” holds a bit less vulnerability than the quietly profound moments we get in “Behind the Music,” it’s still a solid episode all throughout.
Interestingly, it continues to make Steve Howey’s new captain the type of conundrum that even Morgan can’t quite solve. It’s hard to know what his motives are and exactly how he’s going to shake things up, but at the same time, that’s also partly what’s making his inclusion so interesting. We also get a bit more about Roman, which continues to complete things in a way that makes every episode that much more gripping.
Adam “Everything Okay?” Karadec Strikes Again
We all know that the biggest reason I started these highlights is because I couldn’t stop myself from exploring every small Morgan and Karadec scene. The way the show continues to give us something in every episode is what slow burn romance dreams are made of, and High Potential Season 2, Episode 5, “Content Warning” is no exception. It’s clear as ever now that Karadec will always take up the chance to check in on Morgan, and that’s what makes rooting for them so easy. In the same way that she checked in on him last week by noting how concerned she was for his well-being, it’s something he continues to do as well anytime her family comes up.
And all of this is made even better (and hotter!) by the fact that in the same episode, he utters the words, “You don’t know Morgan if you think anyone can claim her,” to the new captain. When Morgan and Karadec get together, there’s going to be so much mutual respect granted from both parties that it’s already destroying me in the best way possible. Karadec respects her agency so reverentially at this point that the fact that this thought is already burned in his brain is concrete proof of why he’s so good to her and for her.
She’s wiggled her way into his life with all that she is and brought so much light that it’s now obvious that even bickering with her brings him out of his own head. It’s his favorite part of the day—the one reprieve from everything else that makes this job so taxing. And all of this just makes their slow burn even more exhilarating because we’re consistently watching two people who know each other so well that it adds something sacred to each of their interactions.
“What the hell happened 15 years ago to make a good man run?”
High Potential Season 2, Episode 5, “Content Warning,” also brings us closer to potentially finding Roman, but it comes at the cost of a mother/daughter fight. Teenagers say cruel things all the time, so really, none of this is a big deal, but the fact that it can become bigger if we find out the truth about Roman is what slightly concerns me. Because Arthur asks a really important question when he poses what could’ve happened to make Roman stay away for 15 years. That’s a long, long time. How much has Roman changed, and how much can change when he’s back? We can decipher that he’s a good man, yes, but what’s at stake here? Will he even come back, and how big is the thing keeping him away?
A part of me can see it all coming to pass this season, but another part wonders if it’ll take even longer. Because, really, Roman’s return is something that can kickstart so many different things into motion, so the when of it all matters greatly. That said, it continues to impress me how well Amirah J holds her own with Kaitlin Olson because each of their scenes this season has been exceptional so far, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store.
Stray Thoughts
- Daphne potentially taking the sergeant’s exam? Here for it. Give her everything!
- I love the fact that Morgan makes an effort to check in on Soto one more time.
- Karadec growing more impulsive because of all the time he spends with Morgan? Amazing. 10/10. No notes.
- I recently remembered that Deniz Akdeniz was briefly in Graceland with Daniel Sunjata, and it made me so giddy. Can we get people from the show to randomly guest-star on High Potential?
- Look, I’m really bummed that Steve Howey loses the mustache soon, but like also, how long do we think the character is actually going to stick around?
