AMC’s The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live trailer is here, and we’re already in our feels about seeing Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) again. The trailer gives us plenty to hold onto with emotional beats that tell us the spinoff series will be the kind of angsty ride we’re all in for.
Rick Grimes is bringing out the “my wife” man energy, and ultimately, that’s all that matters to show us that the couple is still bringing their A-game even while it appears they might be physically apart. The official synopsis reads: “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
If The Walking Dead proved anything, it’s that what Rick and Michonne share is the real deal. The writers know this—the cast, most importantly, knows this—and the fans know this. Throughout the franchise’s run, no matter what fans ship and root for, no couple has proven their love for each other the way Rick and Michonne (coined Richonne) by the fans have.
Judging by the trailer, it’s clear as day that the show will pack multiple punches as we dive into yet another world governed by the undead. Yet, what’s also clear is that Rick and Michonne are going to survive it because they’re bound to continue building the love that’s made them better and stronger throughout the years. The series is set to premiere on February 25, with Scott M. Gimple serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside Lincoln, Gurira, Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath.
