Until I watch the episodes myself and maybe confirm with a few journalist colleagues that we aren’t experiencing some sort of fever dream, it won’t fully hit me that my favorite show is actually back. Ted Lasso Season 4 both feels like a long-time coming and a dream of sorts, but this time, at least, we can go into the season not expecting it to be the end, as most of us assumed with Season 3.
Maybe Ted Lasso will be the kind of show that goes on forever. I’d be here for it because the show’s always been exactly what I’ve needed it to be, even if it hurt me. (Season 4, please bring Keeley and Roy back together so I can experience joy again.)
Is There a Trailer?
There’s officially a trailer, and it’s not only derailed my entire day (affectionately) but maybe my entire season because I’m not going to be sane until Roy and Keeley are back together. But at least they still look at each other the same way they did before. At least no part of their perpetual spark seems to have dimmed with the time apart, and he still gazes at her like she put the sun in the sky. The rest? We’ll just let the story unfold however it wants as long as our grumpy coach and his sunshine girl find their way back together again.
We’re given a brief introduction to the women’s team, as well as one player who seems to contrast Dani Rojas’ “Football is life” motto with “Life is more than football.” The emotions present throughout are palpable, and it’ll be so interesting to see how this season pans out. We went into Season 3 believing that it might be the end with no official confirmation, yet with Season 4, we’re taking everything as it comes. Plus, that Roy and Ted hug right at the beginning? I’m not crying. You’re crying. (I’m definitely crying. A lot.)
A lot has changed since we were last in Richmond, and judging by the trailer, that seems to be the case for the characters, too. But really, the energy in the trailer seems to reflect the show we fell in love with in the first place and that’s all that matters as we go on this ride again.
When Is Ted Lasso Season 4 Coming Out?
Ted Lasso Season 4 returns on August 5, with ten episodes dropping weekly until the first week of October. There typically aren’t many shows that release in the summertime, so it feels fitting that we’ll have Ted Lasso back in the same season we got its sophomore run.
What Will Ted Lasso Season 4 Be About?
When we said goodbye to AFC Richmond, that part seemed to be permanent because now that Jason Sudeikis’ titular character is back, he’ll be coaching a women’s team. The official synopsis reads: “Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”
The impact that Ted had on AFC Richmond is still so monumental and so vital to so many people that I hope we’ll maybe get cameos of AFC Richmond here and there. At the same time, I cannot wait to meet the new cast of players and see how they’ll weave their way into our hearts the same way the boys did.
Knowing that Waddingham’s Rebecca Welton and Juno Temple’s Keeley Jones will return alongside Ted, the possibilities for how much more impactful a women’s team will be are endless. There are a number of sports-centered TV shows airing right now, but they’re rarely about a women’s team. The decision to return and focus attention on a women’s team is so admirable that it’s exactly what I would’ve expected from a show that consistently dismantled toxic masculinity and made a point that vulnerability is a strength. Tissues are prepped and ready to go; I can’t wait to be wrecked in the best way again.
