If there is one thing in this world I love more than Star Wars, it’s Hayden Christensen playing Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars, and the first teaser trailer for Ahsoka Season 2 gave us that in abundance late last night at D23! We are so back, baby. At least those of us who grew up with the prequels and have a deep appreciation for those films are absolutely thriving with this latest drop from Lucasfilm. I consider myself chief among them as an unapologetic Anakin Skywalker apologist until the day I die (quite literally, considering I have him and Padmé Amidala inked onto my skin).
Now obviously this trailer focuses on where we last left Ahsoka, played by Rosario Dawson, and her Padawan, Natasha Liu Bordizzo’s Sabine Wren, at the end of Season 1. When we last saw them, they were stranded on the planet Peridea after successfully rescuing fellow Ghost Crew member and fan favourite Ezra Bridger, played by Eman Esfandi, who had been lost for a decade at this point. Ezra’s return to the galaxy at large is both beautiful and bittersweet, considering the Ghost Crew is still split apart, with Sabine and Ahsoka choosing to remain on Peridea. Unfortunately, Ezra isn’t the only one who made a triumphant return: enter Lars Mikkelsen’s big bad Grand Admiral Thrawn, who made his escape from Peridea before Ahsoka and Sabine could stop him.
With Thrawn back in the game, the fledgling New Republic is up for a fight as he declares war on the Rebel Alliance in the name of the fallen Empire! As our beloved Rebels fight to reunite with their stranded comrades and to hold back the threat of tyranny in the galaxy far, far away, Ahsoka must decide where she stands in this upcoming conflict. We are left at the end of the trailer with Anakin posing a haunting question to Ahsoka, his former Padawan: “Are you a Jedi or not?” And I desperately look forward to finding out the burning answer to that question!
